The Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Katsina State, Bello Adamu Safana, has announced that the party registered over 6,000 new members within one month.
Speaking to journalists, Safana revealed that the new members were former members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He added that the SDP is preparing to welcome more defectors in the coming days.
According to him, the party has commenced the issuance of temporary membership cards across the state, pending the distribution of permanent cards by the party’s national headquarters.
Safana assured the new members that they would be treated equally, just like existing members of the party. However, he cautioned against the formation of parallel structures within the party, warning that any attempt to do so would be met with strict disciplinary measures.
“We will soon take legal action against some members. The formation of any structure must follow the party’s rules and regulations,” he stated.
Safana emphasized that the SDP remains the only party with credible manifestos capable of addressing the nation’s challenges.
“We call on Nigerians to join our great party and vote for our candidates to rescue the country from its current economic and political crises,” he added.
