From Umar Danladi Ado, Sokoto

Former Minister of Water Resources and Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Mukhtar Shehu Shagari, has praised Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, for his commitment to addressing insecurity and safeguarding lives and property across the state.

Shagari, in a statement issued by his media aide, Musa Ubandawaki, and made available to journalists in Sokoto, described the governor’s sustained investment in security as a sign of responsible leadership and dedication to the welfare of the people.

The former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State said the administration’s proactive security measures had helped rebuild public confidence and improve stability in communities that were previously affected by criminal activities.

He stressed that security remains the foundation for economic growth and social development, noting that no society can achieve meaningful progress without peace and stability.

“Governor Ahmed Aliyu has shown commendable commitment in confronting security challenges and ensuring the protection of lives and property across Sokoto State.

“His administration has demonstrated the political will needed to support security agencies in carrying out their responsibilities,” Shagari said.

He commended the governor’s continued support to security agencies through the provision of logistics, operational assistance and collaboration with relevant stakeholders, saying such efforts had strengthened the fight against banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities.

Shagari also applauded the sacrifices of security personnel serving across the state and the country, describing their commitment, courage and patriotism as vital to maintaining peace and national unity.

He noted that improved security in parts of Sokoto State had contributed to increased economic activities, boosted investment opportunities and restored confidence among residents.

According to him, farmers, traders and entrepreneurs can now engage in their businesses with greater confidence due to the improved security situation.

“The progress being recorded in the security sector reflects the determination of Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration to create an environment where businesses can grow, investments can thrive and citizens can live without fear,” he added.

The NIWA chairman said security remains a major priority of the APC-led administration in Sokoto, adding that the governor had demonstrated through practical steps that protecting lives and property is essential to achieving sustainable development.

He urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing useful information that could assist in combating crime, stressing that community involvement remains crucial in maintaining peace.

Shagari also called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth organisations and community groups to promote peace, vigilance and unity at the grassroots level.

He expressed confidence that ongoing efforts by the state government and security agencies would further consolidate peace and enhance socio-economic development across Sokoto State.

“Government, security agencies and citizens must work together to build a safer and more prosperous Sokoto State.

“The progress being recorded today reflects collective commitment, and all stakeholders must remain united in support of peace and sustainable development,” he stated.
