Troops of the COAS Special Intervention Battalion 7, Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have successfully dislodged suspected terrorist elements and recovered high-calibre weapons, ammunition and motorcycles during clearance operations in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, said the operation was part of ongoing offensive operations to clear terrorist enclaves across the North-West.

He said troops advanced through identified terrorist threat enclaves, including Manu, Alkasim and Kandam villages, as well as the Magarya forest axis.

According to him, troops made contact with the terrorists in the Magarya forest enclave and engaged them with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee into the forest.

He added that follow-up operations and a thorough search of the area led to the recovery of arms, ammunition, motorcycles and other logistical items.

The recovered items included one PKT machine gun, AK-47 rifles, a large quantity of 7.62 x 54mm belted ammunition, motorcycles and assorted logistical and miscellaneous items.

Lt. Col. Danja said troops were maintaining a strong operational posture and continuing to dominate the general area to ensure the security of surrounding communities.

He assured that the security forces would sustain offensive operations aimed at degrading terrorist activities and restoring lasting peace in the affected areas.
