The Sokoto State Government in collaboration with development partners has taken crucial steps towards preventing malaria disease in the state.

Governor Dr Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto stated this while flagging off the 2024 Seasonal malaria chemoprevention campaign in the state.

It was organized by the state Ministry of Health and State Malaria Elimination Agency in collaboration with the Malaria consortium, held at the palace of the District Head of Bodinga in Bodinga local government area, Sokoto.

Dr Aliyu said this was necessary considering the effect of Malaria as a deadly disease that kills thousands of people every year in the state.

He then called on people to support and cooperate with health personnel that would distribute the Malaria drugs to children and pregnant Women across the twenty-three local government areas of the state.

Aliyu appreciated the contribution of development partners especially the Malaria Consortium in the fight against Malaria and directed the state Malaria Elimination Agency to present to present all their requests to the office of the Secretary to the state government for necessary action.

The state Commissioner for Health, Hajiya Asabe Balarabe said adequate health personnel were trained to ensure the success of the exercise.

Hajiya Asabe Balarabe said over one million Children under the age of five and pregnant Women are the targeted beneficiaries of the programme, hence the need for all and Sundry to give their support and Cooperation.
