The Sokoto State Governor,Aliyu Ahmed has signed six amended bills into law for good governance .

The signing ceremony was held at the Sokoto State Government House Chamber on Thursday .

The Six signed amended Sokoto State laws as includes, Arabic Board, Rural Roads, Land Tenancy,Zakat, Local Government and disable respectively .

Aliyu stated that it is well-known fact that in every society Laws are enacted and amended to suite the needs of time and interest of the governed in line with circumstances at hand.

“In Nigeria we have witnessed series of constitutional amendmnents with a view to giving the country laws that would ensure peace and tranquillity as well as socio and political development of the country”,

He said that In Sokoto state just like other States had in the previous administrations amended one law or the other, with a view to giving the state laws the needed touch that would fastrack peace and development.

“Let me make it clear that, the just amended laws are not meant to whichunt any individual or group, but rather to promote good governance to remove the ambiguity and inconsistency with the nation’s Constitution”,

We note with concern the unnecessary tension created by our proposal to amend some of these Laws, noted that some of the reactions were politically motivated, while others were done ignorantly without care to inquire from the right quoters on the details and intention of the amendment.

While appreciating our Ulamna for the concern shown on the amendment issue, let me remind you that as ulamas you are representing Allah’s Messenger therefore, you should not allow lazy politicians to use you in scoring their political goals.

The signing of this amended laws is a clear testimony that this administration has full respect and regards for the rule of law, and therefore we would continue to ensure that whatever Laws we are making or amending do not go contrary to the nation’s constitution.

“Assure that this administration listens to the yearnings and aspirations of its citizens and whenever we come across any law that does not suites the interests of our people, we will not hesitate to replace it with the one that will protect the interest of our people”.

A cording to him this administration is indeed a government of the people and for the people. Therefore, we are all out to serve the good people of Sokoto state and ensure that they reap the needed dividends of democracy.

While express his profound gratitude to the entire leadership and Honorable members of the state Assembly for working tirelessly to ensure that these amended bills are passed into Laws.

He said the law makers have displayed high sense of maturity and patriotism in handling the issue of amendment, observing all the necessary due process, particularly the public hearing that was conducted where all stakeholders especially representatives of the sultanate council, Islamic scholars, as well as civil society Organisations were invited to make their input.

Assured that, his administration would not be distracted from providing laws that would fastrack development and which would be inconsonance with contemporary realities of the day.

“Our religion, culture and tradition have taught us to respect our leaders and also honour them in the most decent manner”,

We would therefore continue to collaborate with our traditional rulers and Sultanate Council for the good of our state in particular and the nation in general.

I equally like to thank people of the state for their unflinching support to this administration, I remain grateful.

He call on people of the state to continue to support us in our quest to develop our state.

The Deputy Speaker of the 10th Sokoto State House of Assembly Hon Kabiru Ibrahim (Kware Const) led Members of the State Legislature, the Clerk to the House Dr Mustapha Sidi Attahiru as well as the Deputy Clerk and witnessed the signing into law of the passed bills bills by the state assembly.
