...Honors Wounded-in-Action Soldiers

The Nigerian Army recently marked a significant milestone with the commissioning of the Affordable Home Ownership Option for All Soldiers (AHOOAS) project in Idu, Abuja.

The project, which consists of 100 blocks of four flats, will provide housing for 400 families, with 5% of the homes reserved for soldiers wounded in action (WIA).

This initiative honors a promise made by the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja CFR.

The ceremony saw 20 WIA soldiers honored with the symbolic handover of house keys, fulfilling the late COAS’s pledge to ensure these heroes received dedicated housing.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of its personnel, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives in meeting the needs of soldiers and their families.

As the Special Guest of Honour, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa OFR, commended the COAS, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede NAM, for maintaining the continuity of key initiatives and bringing his late predecessor’s vision to fruition.

He expressed pride in the successful commissioning of the project and its positive impact on the lives of Nigerian Army personnel and their families.

To further honor the soldiers, the CDS made a substantial donation to the WIA beneficiaries of the AHOOAS project. Dr. Kayode Akinade, MD/CEO of Glovis Group of Companies, also made a generous financial donation to honor the WIA soldiers.

Earlier, the COAS, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, expressed his pride in the successful commissioning of the AHOOAS project in Abuja, fulfilling the vision of his late predecessor.

He reaffirmed his commitment to continuing initiatives that enhance the well-being of Nigerian Army personnel. Major General Joseph Omali, MD/CEO of Post Service Housing Development Limited (PHDL), echoed these sentiments, highlighting the project’s crucial role in providing dignified housing for Nigerian Army personnel throughout their careers and beyond.

The event featured a vibrant cultural performance, the symbolic handover of house keys, and a group photograph to honor the soldiers and the welfare scheme established in recognition of their sacrifices and resilience.
