The management of Taraba State University, Jalingo, has suspended all student unions, associations, societies, and clubs operating within the institution until further notice.
The decision, which was announced in the middle of the Students’ Week celebration, effectively halts all student-related gatherings and activities on campus.
This was contained in a circular signed and made available to The Triumph by the Registrar of the university, Dr. Joseph U. Bibinu, and addressed to all students, staff, and members of the university community.
According to the circular, the suspension followed what the management described as the “growing wave of indiscipline, defiance, and outright insubordination” exhibited by some student groups.
It read partly, “The University Management has observed with grave concern the increasing acts of indiscipline, defiance, and outright insubordination by some student associations within the University. Such conduct is unacceptable as it undermines peace, order, and the academic integrity of the institution.
“Consequently, the Management hereby orders the immediate suspension of all student associations, unions, clubs, and societies operating within the University. This suspension takes immediate effect and shall remain in force until further notice.”
The management warned that any violation of the directive would be regarded as gross misconduct and would attract severe disciplinary measures in line with the university’s regulations.
It further cautioned that no student group or individual is permitted to convene meetings, organise events, issue communications, or carry out any activity under the name of any student association within or outside the university.
