With only three days to the start of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, the first batch of Team Nigeria athletes and officials will depart their pre-Games training camp in Aberdeen, Scotland, for the host city of Glasgow on Tuesday, July 21.
The second batch will move into the Games Village on Friday, July 24, joining teammates already on the ground for the opening days of competition.
The phased movement follows weeks of intensive training and acclimatization in Aberdeen, where Team Nigeria has fine-tuned its preparations for one of the Commonwealth’s biggest sporting events.
The National Sports Commission (NSC) has continued to provide athletes with the necessary technical, medical, and welfare support to ensure they arrive in Glasgow in peak condition and fully prepared for competition.
Nigeria will field a strong contingent of athletes across several sports, with the nation’s medal hopes boosted by impressive performances at recent continental and international championships.
The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will be held from July 23 to August 2, featuring about 3,000 athletes from 74 Commonwealth Games Associations competing for 215 gold medals across 11 sports.
Scotland will host the Commonwealth Games for the fourth time, following Edinburgh 1970, Edinburgh 1986, and Glasgow 2014.
The National Sports Commission expressed confidence that Team Nigeria has prepared diligently and will proudly represent the country throughout the Games.
