The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has received significant continental recognition following his appointment by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to the Africa Nations League Advisory Committee.
Triumph gathered that the appointment was contained in an official letter dated August 11, 2026, in which CAF announced the composition of the Advisory Committee.
The committee was established to help advance the Africa Nations League Continental and Africa Nations League Pan-African projects and subsequently advise the CAF Executive Committee on key considerations and decisions relating to the initiatives.
Gusau is among the eight members of the committee drawn from the CAF Executive Committee, placing him alongside some of Africa’s most prominent football administrators.
The appointment is, however, more than a ceremonial inclusion. It represents recognition of Gusau’s administrative experience, track record and growing contribution to the development and governance of football in Africa.
CAF’s decision to entrust him with a role in such an important continental project demonstrates the confidence the continent’s football governing body has placed in his leadership and capacity.
For Nigerian football, the appointment is a significant achievement.
At a time when African football is seeking stronger structures, improved competitions and sustainable development, the involvement of the NFF President in strategic discussions at the CAF level gives Nigeria an important voice in shaping the future direction of the game.
The Advisory Committee is expected to study the Africa Nations League projects and provide recommendations to the CAF Executive Committee.
Its first virtual meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. Cairo time.
