Troops of the 1 Brigade, Joint Task Force Operation Fasan Yamma, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), have intercepted a cache of arms in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The operation, carried out on January 27, 2025, was based on intelligence about suspected arms dealers operating from Niger Republic.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Center, Operation Fasan Yamma, Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, and made available to The Triumph correspondent in Gusau, the state capital.
According to the statement, troops launched a covert operation to track the suspects, leading to a pursuit along the Kaura Namoda-Zurmi road. The suspects attempted to escape by veering off into the bush but were forced to abandon their vehicle after an engagement with the troops.
“A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of two PKT machine guns, nine AK-47 rifles, 13 magazines, 171 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and nine rounds of PKT ammunition,” Abdullahi stated.
Meanwhile, he added, troops are actively pursuing the wanted terrorist Bello Turji, who remains at large, frequently relocating between hideouts to evade capture.
“We assure the public that our troops are working tirelessly to apprehend him as part of our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our communities,” the statement read.
The military urged residents to support security forces by providing any information that could aid their operations.
