Due to the high rate of unwanted pregnancy in Nigeria, World Contraception Day (WCD) 2024 experts decry the need for measures to improve awareness in minimizing maternal mortality in family planning.
During a day stakeholders meeting, experts drawn from far and near the Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency Yola also marked the day with road work.
This year WCD is aimed at “A Choice for all, freedom to plan,” the celebration which was put together by the Adamawa State Primary Health Care and its patterns and donor agencies like UNFPA, Plan International, Care, TCI and MSI Nigeria Reproductive Choices.
Speaking at the day, the Executive Chairman of Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Sulaiman Saidu Bashi,r, noted that unwanted pregnancy family planning is the measure to avoid and maternamortalityity is a major cause of maternal mortality leading to unwanted pregnancies.
In his address, Dr Bashir told stakeholders at the World Contraception Day at the health care agency in Yola that he appreciates donors and their efforts while enlightening the people on the importance of childbirth spacing and family planning.
On his part, the Director of Community Health Services, Rashida Tahiru who commended TCI and other NGO presence for urgent interventions said largely corp the high rate of Maternal morality in the state
The Director of Community Health Services, represented by Mrs Indiana David Laquisha, noted that access to both contraception and advice on the different types has given people the information they need, the right contraception for them, allowing them to take control over their fertility and their body.
Also, the state Reproductive Health Coordinator Tulhungu Uzeil identified that childbirth spacing should not be negotiable for the safety of the mother, as contraception for sexually active women to be pregnant when needed, the only solution to maternal mortality remains contraception, she noted.
Mr Godiya Yusuf, the TCI coordinator at the WCD, lauded the Adamawa State Government for the provision of commodities, and their service providers have been doing well in enlightening the rural dwellers.
The Adamawa State Family Planning Coordinator with the Adamawa State Primary Health Care, Aishatu Garba Abubakar, said the success and impact of proper contraception is the overview of the state activity.
