The son of former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, Mahdi Aliyu Wamakko, has been turbaned as the Yariman Wamakko in Sokoto State.
Others turbaned during the ceremony include Alhaji Sadat Mohammad as Shattiman Wamakko; Alhaji Mika’ilu Bello as Dan Iyan Wamakko; Alhaji Mukhtar Jibrin Wamakko as Mainan Wamakko; Alhaji Muhammad Sani Audu Wamakko as Tafidan Wamakko; and Habibu Dan Galadima as Dan Majen Wamakko.
Speaking at the event, Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu, urged the newly turbaned district heads to always consult widely before taking decisions affecting their respective domains.
The Governor also called on them to prioritise community development and work towards restoring sustainable peace, unity, and security across the state and the country at large.
Aliyu made the call on Sunday in Wamakko, headquarters of Wamakko Local Government Area, during the traditional turbaning and royal shaving ceremony held in honour of the newly installed Baraden Wamakko and District Head of Wamakko, Alhaji Ahmad Barade.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Sifawa, the Governor assured the new district heads of the state government’s continued support.
“We will accord all the district heads the utmost support they require to succeed in administering their domains.
“They should also ensure sustained prayers for the restoration of security in the state and Nigeria as a whole,” he said.
The Governor further advised the new District Head, the Baraden Wamakko, to uphold the legacy of his forebears in order to preserve the integrity of the revered Baraden Wamakko family.
He urged him to deploy his wealth of experience towards advancing the development of the district.
“Leadership requires compassion and dedication, while the people must also cooperate with their leader to ensure success,” he added.
Also speaking, the Sultan of Sokoto, Dr. Sa’ad Abubakar, represented by the Wazirin Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, pledged support for the new district heads and urged them to provide inclusive and credible leadership.
In a goodwill message, the Minister of State for Works, Barrister Muhammad Bello Goronyo, described Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko as a humble, pious, and committed leader.
He also commended the new Baraden Wamakko for his generosity and service to the people.
Similarly, Ambassador Abubakar Shehu Wurno and the Jarman Sokoto, Alhaji Umarun-Kwabo A.A., praised the new District Head, describing him as pious, patient, and capable.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of Wamakko Local Government Area, Alhaji Umar Ahmad Dundaye, described the occasion as historic and assured the new traditional ruler of the council’s support.
Responding, the new Baraden Wamakko described his ascension as an epochal moment and expressed gratitude to Governor Ahmed Aliyu, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, and the Sultan of Sokoto for the confidence reposed in him.
He pledged to lead with fairness and justice, irrespective of ethnic or religious differences.
The highlight of the ceremony was the turbaning of six new traditional title holders by the Baraden Wamakko.
