The Managing Director of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Barr. Seun Faleye, has emphasized that workers’ safety and health remain a top priority for the Fund’s management.
In a statement signed and issued in Abuja by Alexandria Mede, Deputy General Manager, Corporate Affairs of the Fund, Faleye, represented by the Executive Director, Finance and Investment, Dr. Adedeji Adegoke, reaffirmed the management’s “unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and well-being of Nigerian workers” during a press conference to mark the World Day for Safety and Health at Work at the Fund’s corporate headquarters on Monday.
Speaking on this year’s theme, “Revolutionising Health and Safety: The Role of AI and Digitalization at Work,” Faleye noted, “We are living in a technological renaissance that is redefining the modern workplace.” He highlighted the role of Artificial Intelligence, digital sensors, machine learning, and other technologies — once considered futuristic — in saving lives, restoring dignity, and minimizing workplace injuries.
The Managing Director further stated that the theme aligns with NSITF’s strategic focus on accident prevention, worker protection, and productivity enhancement.
In his address, Faleye saluted Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) officers and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) workers for their courage and dedication, acknowledging them as the first line of defense in ensuring workplace safety.
He called on all stakeholders to make this year’s observance a turning point by fostering stronger collaboration, formulating better policies, and allocating adequate resources to safety initiatives. He also urged the media to amplify the message of workplace safety and health.
Concluding his remarks, Faleye stressed that “a safe worker is a productive worker, and a healthy workplace is the foundation of a prosperous nation.”
The World Day for Safety and Health at Work was instituted by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in 2003 to raise awareness about the importance of preventing workplace accidents, injuries, and diseases, and to promote a culture of occupational safety and health.
As part of the 2025 commemoration, the NSITF has lined up a week-long series of activities, including a roadshow in Abuja on Monday, aimed at sensitizing the public on workplace safety and health.
