The Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Dambatta (ABCOAD), Kano State, has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability and climate-smart agriculture as it joined the global community in commemorating World Nature Conservation Day 2026.
In a statement to mark the occasion, the Provost of the College, Dr. Hassan Ibrahim, described environmental conservation as a shared responsibility, stressing that protecting forests, water resources, biodiversity and fertile soils is vital to food security, agricultural productivity and sustainable development.
He said the college remains committed to integrating environmental sustainability into its teaching, research and community engagement programmes while promoting climate-smart agriculture and the responsible management of natural resources.
According to the Provost, ABCOAD is dedicated to producing graduates equipped with the knowledge and practical skills needed to address environmental challenges and advance sustainable agricultural development.
Dr. Ibrahim urged students, staff, farmers and the general public to adopt environmentally friendly practices such as tree planting, preventing deforestation and bush burning, protecting water bodies and embracing sustainable farming methods.
He noted that tackling climate change and environmental degradation requires collective action, calling on individuals, communities and institutions to work together to conserve nature for the benefit of present and future generations.
The Provost reaffirmed the college’s determination to remain a leading institution in environmental education, agricultural innovation and sustainable development, while contributing to national and global efforts to build a greener, healthier and more resilient future.
World Nature Conservation Day is observed annually on July 28 to raise awareness about the importance of protecting natural resources and promoting sustainable practices for the well-being of present and future generations.
