The Yobe State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon. Ali Mustapha Goniri, has commended Governor Mai Mala Buni for approving the 2026 Mega Agricultural Empowerment Programme, describing the initiative as a bold and strategic investment that will further strengthen Yobe State’s position as one of Nigeria’s leading agricultural producers.
The Yobe State Executive Council recently approved N28.531 billion for the procurement of agricultural tools, equipment and modern farming implements to support farmers and enhance food production across the state.
Reacting to the approval, Goniri said the Governor’s decision reflects his administration’s unwavering commitment to achieving food security, modernising agriculture and empowering farmers to improve their productivity and livelihoods.
He noted that the programme builds on the successes recorded under the 2024 and 2025 Mega Agricultural Empowerment Programmes, through which thousands of farmers across the state’s 17 local government areas received improved farm inputs and modern equipment, resulting in increased cultivation, higher crop yields and improved food production.
According to the Commissioner, the latest intervention will ensure the timely distribution of agricultural equipment ahead of the 2026 farming season, enabling farmers to maximise production while contributing to the state’s economic growth and national food security.
“The approval of this massive agricultural intervention is another demonstration of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s visionary leadership and his determination to make agriculture the backbone of Yobe State’s economy,” Goniri said.
He added that the programme would create more opportunities for youths and women in agribusiness, strengthen agricultural value chains and stimulate economic activities in rural communities across the state.
Goniri also applauded Governor Buni for approving other complementary projects, including the construction of the Buni-Yadi Modern Motor Park and Grains Market as well as the acquisition of Fanzar Mixed Farms Limited.
He said the projects would improve agricultural marketing, storage, processing and agribusiness development, thereby enhancing the overall value chain.
The Commissioner maintained that Governor Buni’s consistent investment in agriculture has transformed the sector into a major driver of economic development in Yobe State while improving the welfare of farmers and rural communities.
He assured residents that the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources would ensure the transparent and efficient implementation of the programme so that the intended beneficiaries receive the equipment and support in good time.
Goniri also urged farmers across the state to embrace modern farming techniques and take full advantage of the government’s intervention, assuring them of the administration’s continued commitment to promoting agriculture as a sustainable pathway to food security, job creation, economic diversification and shared prosperity.
