The Yobe State Government has declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, as a work-free day to mourn the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday in a London hospital.
Governor Mai Mala Buni, in a statement issued by his Director-General, Press and Media Affairs, Mamman Mohammad, said the day should be dedicated to prayers for the repose of the soul of the late Nigerian leader.
Buni called on imams across the state to offer special prayers in their respective mosques for the late President and for peace in the country.
“He was a leader who did so much to restore security to Yobe and the North-East. He deserves this special honour from the people of the state,” Buni said.
In honour of the former President, the Yobe State Executive Council suspended its weekly meeting and held a special prayer session instead.
In an earlier condolence message, Governor Buni described Buhari as a true patriot who dedicated his life to Nigeria’s unity and progress.
He said the late President was a man of integrity, discipline, and unwavering commitment to national development.
Buni prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive Buhari’s shortcomings and grant him eternal rest in Al-Jannah Firdaus.
The governor also extended his condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the family of the late former president, the Katsina State Government, the Daura Emirate, and all Nigerians over the national loss.
