The Head of Service (HoS) of Yobe State has commended Governor Mai Mala Buni for his steadfast commitment to human capital development and public service transformation, describing his initiatives as a benchmark for people-oriented leadership.

The commendation was made in a statement issued by Alhassan Sule Mamudo, Press Secretary to the HoS, while representing Governor Buni at an event organized by the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), where the governor was honoured with an Award of Excellence.

Speaking at the occasion, the HoS described the recognition as a well-deserved tribute to a leader whose administration places workers’ welfare at the forefront.

“Governor Buni has consistently demonstrated unwavering support for civil servants through prompt salary payments, provision of affordable housing, payment of furniture allowances, and distribution of welfare materials,” the statement said.

The HoS further highlighted the governor’s recent settlement of all outstanding gratuity liabilities to retired civil servants, describing it as a mark of compassion and dedication to workers’ welfare.

“These initiatives have significantly boosted morale across the civil service and strengthened institutional performance,” he added.

Ibrahim Bulama Yusuf, Yobe State Focal Person on Training and Succession Planning, disclosed that the governor had directed the development of a succession plan and training guide document, alongside the appointment of a Focal Person on Training and Succession Planning. According to him, these measures have enhanced workforce capacity and ensured continuity in service delivery.

He noted that under the administration, 34 Permanent Secretaries were trained at the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN), while 149 civil servants benefited from training at ASCON, reflecting the government’s commitment to experiential and results-oriented learning.

In her welcome remarks, ASCON Director-General, Mrs. Funke Femi Adepoju, praised Governor Buni’s visionary leadership and partnership with the College. “Yobe State recorded the largest number of participants in ASCON’s training history, highlighting the administration’s investment in human capital development,” she said.

Delivering the vote of thanks, Alh. Abas Isa Bizi, Permanent Secretary of Manpower Development, described the award as a celebration of the state’s commitment to excellence in public service.

He expressed gratitude to ASCON for recognizing Governor Buni’s efforts, calling the honour a testament to the power of visionary leadership and sustained investment in people.
