A youth coalition, the Bomai Yobe East Solidarity Movement, has called on Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai to contest the Yobe State governorship election in 2027, marking an early mobilisation ahead of the polls.

The endorsement was announced on Saturday during the inauguration of the group’s new executives at the Federal Polytechnic, Damaturu.

Speaking at the event, the coordinator of the movement, Abba Soso Geidam, said the group was formed specifically to galvanise support for Bomai’s governorship ambition, citing what he described as the senator’s strong development record.

“We are convinced that no other aspirant can match Senator Bomai’s achievements, particularly his impact across Yobe East during his eight years in the Senate,” Geidam said.

He added that the movement was committed to grassroots mobilisation to ensure the senator’s emergence when the political process formally begins.

Also speaking, the pioneer secretary of the Bomai Support Group, Ibrahim Mohammed, praised Bomai’s legislative performance and political trajectory, noting that he had quickly risen to prominence in the National Assembly.

“His appointment as chairman of the LCT Committee as a second-term senator was unprecedented and speaks volumes about his leadership capacity,” he said.

Mohammed further highlighted Bomai’s 35-year career in the civil service and recalled his 2018 electoral victory, when he defeated an incumbent senator by a wide margin.

On zoning, he argued that fairness and equity required a shift of power to Zone B, describing it as a necessary rotation within the state’s political structure.

The call also received backing from Alhaji Muhammad Ngordi, a senior All Progressives Congress leader from Yobe East (Zone A), who said Bomai stood out among potential aspirants.

“When the time comes, we do not have a better candidate than Senator Bomai,” Ngordi said. “He is the only one whose projects are visible across all the local governments in his constituency, from roads to other people-oriented interventions.”

According to him, the turnout at the event reflected widespread support for the senator’s possible governorship bid.

The endorsement underscores growing political activity in Yobe State as stakeholders and interest groups begin early positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
