The Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board (ZSUBEB) has flagged off a training programme for School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) Master Trainers aimed at strengthening school governance, community participation and the delivery of quality basic education across the state.
The training, organised under the leadership of the Executive Chairman of ZSUBEB, Professor Nasir Garba Anka, Makaman Sokoto South and Modibbo Gamji, brought together SBMC Master Trainers, Board officials, UBEC facilitators and other key education stakeholders.
In her speech at the flag-off ceremony, Professor Rabi’atu Musa Talata Mafara, who represented the Executive Chairman, welcomed the participants and described the training as an important step towards strengthening community participation and improving the quality of education in schools.
She explained that SBMCs provide a vital platform for bringing together schools, parents, communities and other stakeholders to collectively support effective school management and improved learning outcomes.
According to her, the Master Trainers were expected to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to effectively train and mentor other SBMC members.
Professor Rabi’atu further stated that the role of the Master Trainers would extend beyond the training, as they would serve as key agents in transferring knowledge, strengthening leadership at the school level, promoting accountability and encouraging meaningful community participation in education.
Also speaking, Permanent Member II, Alhaji Garba Dan Azumi, expressed appreciation to the facilitators, resource persons and participants for their commitment to the success of the programme.
He stressed the need for the knowledge and skills acquired during the training to be effectively transferred to other SBMC members across schools.
He urged the Master Trainers to remain committed to their responsibilities and ensure that the knowledge gained translates into practical actions that would strengthen SBMCs, improve school governance, support teachers and learners, and contribute to better educational outcomes.
In his welcome address, the Director of Social Mobilization, Alhaji Sani Usman Gummi, welcomed participants and stakeholders to the training, describing the programme as an important initiative towards building the capacity of SBMCs and enhancing community involvement in the development of schools.
He encouraged participants to actively participate in the sessions, share their experiences, ask questions and learn from one another.
He also urged them to demonstrate dedication and professionalism in carrying out their responsibilities as Master Trainers.
The Board appreciated the UBEC facilitators, resource persons, Master Trainers and all stakeholders for their valuable contributions to the programme, while expressing confidence that the training would strengthen SBMC structures and promote greater collaboration between schools and their communities.
The training is expected to equip the Master Trainers with the necessary capacity to effectively cascade the knowledge and skills acquired to SBMC members across schools in Zamfara State, ultimately supporting improved school management, accountability, community participation and learning outcomes.
