The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has commended the Federal Government for providing subsidised fertiliser and improved seeds to its members, describing the intervention as a major boost to agricultural production across the country.

The Chairman of AFAN in Katsina State, Umar Yau Gwajo-Gwajo, disclosed this in an interview with journalists in Katsina, stating that more than 300,000 members of the association in the state benefited from the programme.

Gwajo-Gwajo described the intervention as unprecedented, saying it would significantly reduce farmers’ production costs at a time when the prices of agricultural inputs remain high in the open market.

He said the distribution of fertiliser and improved seeds would encourage farmers to increase cultivation and enhance food production nationwide.

“AFAN commends the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for distributing subsidised fertiliser and improved seeds to our members.

“This gesture is a great morale booster and will contribute immensely to increasing food production in the country,” he said.

The AFAN chairman also expressed appreciation to the Katsina State Government for its continued support to farmers in the state.

According to him, the administration of Governor Dikko Umar Radda has provided AFAN members with tractors, fertiliser, improved seeds, solar-powered water pumping machines and threshers to improve agricultural productivity.

He assured that members of the association would continue to support government policies and programmes, particularly those aimed at developing the agricultural sector and strengthening food security in Nigeria.
