The Acting Provost of Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies (AKCILS), Dr. Ali Tamasi Mu’az, has called on stakeholders in Arabic and Islamic education to intensify efforts towards addressing challenges affecting the growth of the Arabic language in Nigeria.

Tamasi made the call while delivering a goodwill message at the opening of the 2nd Joint International Conference of the Nigeria Association of Teachers of Arabic and Islamic Studies (NATAIS), held at Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano.

A statement issued on Monday, by the Protocol and Public Relations Directorate of AKCILS, said the conference was jointly organised by AKCILS, Northwest University, Kano, and Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano.

The conference, themed “Landmarks of Arabic and Islamic Culture in Africa,” brought together academics and scholars from across the country to deliberate on the advancement of Arabic and Islamic scholarship.

The Provost described the theme as timely, noting that Arabic language and Islamic education remain important components of Nigeria’s educational and cultural development.

He said AKCILS had, over the past three decades, played a significant role in promoting Arabic and Islamic education by producing competent teachers who have contributed to the country’s education sector.

Tamasi urged NATAIS to critically examine the challenges confronting Arabic language development and develop practical solutions to strengthen its teaching and learning across Nigeria.

He said, “There is a need for stronger collaboration among scholars and relevant stakeholders to further strengthen Arabic education and harness its potential for socio-economic development.”

The Acting Provost also reaffirmed AKCILS’ commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at promoting Arabic language and Islamic education.

The opening ceremony was attended by eminent academics and scholars, including the Grand Imam of Kano State, Emeritus Professor Sani Zahraddeen, who chaired the event alongside Emeritus Professor Shehu Ahmad Sa’idu Galadanchi.
