An 18-year-old woman, Fatima Dalha, has allegedly stabbed her 30-year-old husband in the stomach during a domestic dispute in Lirr Bajar, Dass Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The disagreement reportedly arose over wrappers, a mobile phone and money that the woman claimed belonged to her.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Nafi’u Habib, confirmed the incident to journalists in a statement, saying it occurred on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at about 6:00 a.m.
He said the argument between the couple escalated after the woman allegedly picked up a knife and stabbed her husband in the stomach.
According to Habib, the trouble started when the woman confronted her husband and demanded the return of her money, wrappers and phone, which she alleged were in his possession.
“In a moment of rage and desperation, Fatima reached for a knife lying close by and stabbed her husband in the stomach.
“The husband fell, bleeding. The neighbourhood erupted. An angry mob gathered, ready to lynch the young woman.
“Police operatives from Dass Division raced to the scene and saved her from instant jungle justice, while the wounded husband was rushed to a hospital, where he is now receiving treatment.
“Behind the uniform, behind the case file, are two young lives, a marriage of barely months, now shattered by anger that could have been resolved with words,” the statement said.
Habib disclosed that the suspect had been detained and the knife allegedly used in the attack recovered.
He added that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for a discreet investigation.
The PPRO also quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, as expressing concern over cases of domestic violence among young couples.
The commissioner advised couples to resolve disagreements peacefully through family members, elders and lawful channels rather than resorting to violence.
He also warned against jungle justice and reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring that justice was served professionally and humanely.
