Brigadier General Amechi Agwu has officially assumed command of the Nigerian Army’s 23 Brigade, headquartered in Yola, Adamawa State.

He takes over from Brigadier General Paul Zawaya, who handed over the reins in a ceremony marked by military tradition and symbolism.

The event featured the signing of handing and taking over notes, an address to the troops, and the ceremonial lowering and hoisting of the Brigade flag—a long-standing ritual signifying the formal transfer of authority.

In his farewell remarks, Brigadier General Zawaya expressed heartfelt gratitude to the officers, soldiers, and civilian staff for their unwavering support throughout his tenure.

He urged them to extend even greater cooperation to his successor. He also commended the government and people of Adamawa State for their continued partnership in fostering peace and security.

In his address, Brigadier General Agwu pledged to build upon the accomplishments of his predecessor. He emphasized his commitment to enhancing the operational effectiveness of the Brigade and ensuring the safety and well-being of the people of Adamawa State.

He called on all personnel to maintain high standards of discipline and dedication, assuring residents that the Brigade would remain steadfast in its mandate to protect lives and property.

The change of command underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to continuity, professionalism, and strengthened leadership in pursuit of lasting peace in the North-East region.

The ceremony concluded with a parade and other traditional military rites in line with Army protocol.
