The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to the protection of human rights and the safety of citizens during a recent operational visit to frontline units under Operation Safe Haven in Kaduna and Plateau States.
In a statement issued in Abuja over the weekend by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, General Musa addressed troops at the newly established 2 National Mission Brigade in Samaru Kataf, Kaduna State, and Sector 8 in Mangu, Plateau State. He reminded them of their duty to respect and protect citizens’ rights while conducting operations.
“Members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria are trained to protect lives and property as well as respect citizens’ human rights,” General Musa emphasized.
The CDS urged troops to intensify efforts against criminal elements, calling for renewed vigor in counterinsurgency operations in 2025. He stressed the importance of targeting criminal hideouts and completely flushing out threats to security.
General Musa also cautioned against illegal practices that could tarnish the image of the Armed Forces. He encouraged teamwork among units to ensure more operational successes.
During the visit, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of Operation Safe Haven, provided a briefing on the security situation in the joint operational area.
In Southern Kaduna, General Musa paid homage to the Chief of Kagoro, His Royal Highness Agwam Ufuwai Bonet, acknowledging the royal father’s support for troops in the region.
Accompanying the CDS to the 2 National Mission Brigade was Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District. The senator commended General Musa for his efforts in addressing the security challenges in the area, expressing hope for lasting peace and stability.
Operation Safe Haven continues to play a vital role in addressing insecurity in Kaduna and Plateau States, with the CDS’s visit underscoring the commitment to operational excellence and respect for human rights.
