Not fewer than eight people dead, and fifty are undergoing serious medical attention following the spark of the cholera outbreak in Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa state.

The health authorities confirm that the spread of the disease was recorded in mid-September in Alkawa Ajiya and Limawa Wards, all in Yola North LGA, the total confirmed cases stood at 50, with eight fatalities.

The outbreak has been reported from the same three settlements, without further extension to wards or communities affected as at the time of the report.

So far, Health officials are on top of the situation as they are closely monitoring the situation, and samples collected from the outbreak have tested positive for Vibrio cholerae 01 serotype at Yola Specialist Hospital.

In an interview with newsmen, the Yola North local government council Chairman, Barrister Jibril Ibrahim, confirmed the outbreak and urged the Adamawa State Government for swift intervention to contain the spread.

Ibrahim urges the community’s cooperation with health workers, who have begun house-to-house visits to raise awareness to prevent further cases.

His words, “We need immediate support from the state government and collaboration from the people of Yola North to help health workers in their efforts to control this outbreak.”

Authorities have encouraged residents to follow public health guidelines and report any suspected cases as efforts to contain the outbreak continue in due course.
