From Joseph Asegba, Yola
The Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN) has concluded its five-day Divisional Revival in Kofare, Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa State, with a strong call on Christians to pursue wealth through hard work and righteous living.
The revival, which ran from Thursday, July 2, to Sunday, July 5, 2026, brought together pastors, reverends, and members of churches under the Wablai District.
Delivering the closing sermon on Sunday, Reverend Pwamori Obidah preached from Luke 5:1–11, the account of the miraculous catch of fish.
He emphasized that after the fall of humanity, the devil (Lucifer) led many people astray, but Jesus Christ came to redeem and save mankind.
Speaking on the theme, “Hear the Word of God and Act Accordingly,” Reverend Obidah said God has always called people to fulfil His purpose.
He cited the call of Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egyptian bondage and the call of Peter, a fisherman who had laboured all night without catching any fish.
“Jesus instructed Peter to cast his net into the deep.
“Despite his earlier failure, Peter obeyed, saying, ‘At your word, I will let down the net.’ The catch was so great that the net began to break, and he had to call his partners for help,” the cleric said.
He noted that instead of focusing on the miraculous catch, Peter and his companions left everything behind to follow Jesus and preach the Gospel.
“Jesus does not force anyone to follow Him. Everyone has the freedom to choose, but backsliding among Christians is one of the major reasons many prayers remain unanswered,” he said.
Reverend Obidah urged Christians to wake up from spiritual slumber and remain steadfast in Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour.
Speaking on wealth creation, he cautioned believers against seeking riches through dishonest means.
“Not all wealth is genuine,” he said. “I urge you to seek prosperity through honest hard work, not through get-rich-quick schemes, but through diligence rooted in Christ.”
He also encouraged Christians to live according to God’s will, love both Christians and non-Christians, and shun evil.
“God is fully aware of everything you are going through,” he said. “If you live according to His will, He will answer your prayers.”
The five-day revival ended with prayers for spiritual renewal, faithfulness, and God’s continued blessings upon the Church and the nation.
