The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the successful pilot deployment of the Electronic Currency Declaration Form (e-CDF) at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
This initiative is part of its broader digital transformation and modernization efforts aimed at enhancing border control and promoting transparency in financial disclosures.
In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, the National Public Relations Officer and Assistant Comptroller General of Customs, Abdullahi Maiwada, said the pilot exercise began on April 9, 2025, and was implemented without any hitches.
It demonstrated the system’s effectiveness in digitally capturing both inbound and outbound currency declarations, offering a secure, efficient, and accountable process for cross-border travellers.
During the pilot phase, the e-CDF system recorded a total of 69 currency declaration transactions. Outbound declarations made up 51 of these, with a total declared value of $1,200,281.22. Inbound declarations accounted for 18 transactions, totaling $177,786.88.
The e-CDF platform was developed in alignment with international best practices on anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-financing of terrorism (CFT) protocols. It provides real-time data to support intelligence gathering and inter-agency cooperation.
Under the leadership of Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, the NCS remains committed to leveraging technology to improve compliance, facilitate legitimate travel and trade, and strengthen Nigeria’s border integrity.
Following the success of the Abuja pilot, the NCS plans to extend the deployment of the e-CDF system to other international airports and border posts nationwide.
