D-Ikram Nursery and Primary School has celebrated its sixth Cultural Day at BMC Event Center, with pupils showcasing the rich cultural heritage of various Nigerian ethnic groups and Arab traditions.
The annual event was organised to promote pupils’ talents, moral values, cultural awareness, unity, and peaceful coexistence, while reaffirming the school’s commitment to providing quality education.
During the colourful celebration, pupils from different cultural groups represented Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, Fulani, Kanuri, and Arab communities.
They appeared in traditional attires and presented cultural displays, dances, greetings, fashion parades, and other activities reflecting the history, values, and traditions of their respective communities.
Speaking at the event, the Proprietress of the school, Hajiya Habiba, said the programme was organised to entertain pupils, showcase what they have learned, and demonstrate to parents and the public the importance of quality education in shaping children’s future.
She explained that the Cultural Day celebration, which is the school’s seventh edition, provides an opportunity for pupils to develop confidence, appreciate cultural diversity, and understand the importance of respecting people from different backgrounds.
Hajiya Habiba appreciated parents for their continued support and commitment to their children’s education, urging them to sustain their efforts towards building a brighter future for their wards.
She also appealed to parents to continue cooperating with the school by paying school fees promptly and supporting other important school activities, noting that timely payment of fees and other logistics would help the institution operate effectively and encourage teachers to give their best.
In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Chairman on Community Affairs, Hon. Isyaku Tanimu (M. Jogas), emphasised the importance of sound and quality education in nation-building.
He said education equips children with the knowledge and skills required to become responsible citizens and successful professionals such as lawyers, engineers, doctors, pilots, journalists, and teachers.
Hon. Tanimu urged parents not to hesitate in paying their children’s school fees, describing investment in education as both a parental responsibility and a religious obligation.
The Head of the School, Mrs. Aisha Ali Baba, said cultural programmes like the celebration help to teach pupils unity, love, and peaceful coexistence, especially considering the need for stronger relationships among Nigerians.
She urged parents to encourage their children to read and complete their homework rather than engaging them in unnecessary activities that could affect their academic performance.
Mrs. Ali Baba thanked all participants and guests who attended the event from far and near, wishing them safe journeys back to their destinations.
Also speaking, a teacher at the school, Aunty Bilkisu Zakariyya Musa, appreciated the parents for their support and called on them to always communicate with the school whenever they notice any issue concerning their children’s learning and development.
The celebration featured exciting cultural performances, drama presentations, traditional dances, and a fashion parade, which attracted cheers from parents, guests, and other spectators.
The pupils displayed confidence and creativity, reflecting the knowledge and skills they have acquired in the school.
At the end of the cultural competition, the Fulani group emerged first, followed by Igbo in second position, Arab in third, Yoruba in fourth, Kanuri in fifth, and Hausa in sixth position.
Parents expressed appreciation to the school management for organising the successful event, describing it as a wonderful initiative that would encourage children to value education, culture, unity, and respect for one another.
They pledged their continued support towards the academic growth and development of their children.
