The Kano State Government, through the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has sponsored 138 pupils selected from the 44 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state to pursue their education at two designated schools.

Forty-four pupils were selected for admission to Alhaji Akilu Comprehensive and Islamic Secondary School in Madobi, while the remaining 94 pupils were admitted to Shehu Minjibir Boarding Primary School in Minjibir Local Government Area, following a rigorous aptitude test and screening exercise.

Receiving the pupils at the SUBEB headquarters in Kano, the Executive Chairman, Malam Yusuf Kabir, alongside members of the Board’s management team, welcomed the initiative, which aims to provide the beneficiaries with access to quality education in a structured and conducive learning environment.

Shehu Minjibir Boarding Primary School, established in 2014, was closed for several years before the present administration reopened it in 2025.

The newly admitted pupils will continue their senior primary education at the school, marking another step towards revitalising the institution and expanding access to quality basic education in the state.

Similarly, the admission of the 44 pupils to Alhaji Akilu Comprehensive and Islamic Secondary School represents the third phase of the present administration’s sponsorship programme for pupils selected to study at the institution.

To facilitate the pupils’ smooth transition into their respective schools and support their academic activities, the state government provided them with essential educational materials and personal effects.

These include school kits, school bags, two sets of uniforms, housewear, two sets of socks and sandals, exercise books, and other learning necessities.

The intervention is expected to provide the beneficiaries with a supportive learning environment that will enhance their academic performance and equip them with the knowledge, skills, and values required for their future development.

Some parents of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Kano State Government for the sponsorship, describing it as a welcome intervention that would ease the financial burden of educating their children and provide them with greater opportunities to excel academically.

They also commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for prioritising education and investing in the future of young people across the state.

The sponsorship reflects the state government’s commitment to strengthening basic education and expanding access to quality learning opportunities for pupils from different backgrounds across the 44 Local Government Areas.

As the SUBEB management conveyed the pupils to their respective schools to commence their studies, parents and other stakeholders expressed joy and appreciation for the initiative, applauding the government for the gesture.

They also expressed optimism that the beneficiaries would make good use of the opportunity and justify the investment in their education.
