From Mu’awiya Bala Idris, Katsina
Former Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Trust Development Fund (PTDF), Engineer Muhtaka Rabe Darma, has boasted that his vast experience in both the public and private sectors will earn him a ticket for the Senate seat.
Darma, who is contesting for the Katsina Central Senatorial Seat under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC), told reporters that his understanding of the legislative process would enable him to effectively represent the people of his constituency.
He explained that his political career started during his student days, and that he has contested for various positions, including Local Government Chairman, House of Representatives, Governorship, and Deputy Governorship.
He further stated that he has contributed to policy development, research, and education, including authoring 42 books and numerous academic papers.
Darma said he resolved to contest for the Senate not to enrich himself, but in response to calls by individuals and groups urging him to vie for the position.
He added that his tenure as a senator, if given the opportunity, would be different, pledging not to disappoint his constituents.
Darma also said he would introduce free education for all and empower people for self-reliance.
According to him, his ambition to become a senator is not a do-or-die affair, noting that he is ready to step down if directed to do so.
He further threw his weight behind consensus among aspirants during the party primaries.
