The Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State has launched the distribution of a N20 million business support grant to 200 beneficiaries, under the sponsorship of the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin.
According to a statement issued by the Zonal Information Officer of the council, Hassana Aminu, each beneficiary will receive N100,000 to support small-scale businesses and improve livelihoods across the area.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, the Chairman of Dawakin Tofa Local Government, Alhaji Anas Mukhtar Bello Danmaliki, said the initiative was designed to empower residents economically and encourage self-reliance among youths and vulnerable groups.
He urged beneficiaries to make proper use of the funds, stressing that prudent investment of the grants would positively transform their lives and those of their families.
Danmaliki noted that the prevailing economic hardship had forced many residents, including patients and students, to seek public assistance through radio appeals, adding that the empowerment programme would help ease the burden on struggling families.
He also warned beneficiaries against misusing the funds, saying the grants were specifically intended to strengthen businesses and contribute to the economic development of Kano State.
The council chairman disclosed that all 200 beneficiaries were selected from the 11 wards of the local government based on merit, without favoritism or political consideration.
He further called on beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture by supporting the All Progressives Congress in future elections.
Danmaliki assured Barau Jibrin of the continued support and loyalty of the people of Dawakin Tofa in recognition of his numerous developmental and empowerment initiatives in the area.
Representing the Deputy Senate President at the event, Alhaji Hafiz Imam highlighted several intervention programmes earlier executed by the senator in Dawakin Tofa, including the distribution of cows, sheep, goats, laptops, solar-powered equipment, fertilizer, youth empowerment grants, and the newly introduced N20 million support package.
He said the interventions were aimed at boosting economic activities and improving living conditions across communities in Kano North Senatorial District.
Imam also appealed to residents to continue supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC administration.
In his remarks, the APC Chairman in the area, Hon. Rabiu Abubakar Tunfafi, described the gesture as part of the longstanding humanitarian and empowerment efforts of Barau Jibrin.
He added that the Deputy Senate President’s contributions extend beyond Kano North, benefiting people across Northern Nigeria.
Some of the beneficiaries, including Ibrahim Haruna, Zahraddeen Idris, and Fiddausi Inuwa, expressed appreciation for the support and pledged to utilize the funds effectively.
The event was attended by the Vice Chairman of the local government, councillors, party elders, security personnel, and other dignitaries.
