An anniversary should not be measured merely by the passage of time. Rather, it should be assessed by the quality of leadership demonstrated, the impact of decisions made, the innovations introduced, and the positive transformation achieved during a leader’s tenure.
In public service, the true significance of an anniversary lies in the lives touched and the institutions strengthened.
The Kano Health Trust Fund (KHETFUND) had existed for several years before the appointment of Dr. Fatima Usman Zahraddeen as its Executive Secretary.
While the agency was established with an important mandate, its activities were not widely known to the public.
Since assuming office three years ago, however, Dr. Fatima has overseen a remarkable transformation.
Under her leadership, KHETFUND has emerged as one of Kano State’s most visible and impactful public institutions, implementing strategic interventions that have strengthened healthcare infrastructure and improved service delivery across the state.
With the support of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, KHETFUND has expanded its reach through projects aimed at improving access to healthcare, strengthening health institutions, supporting healthcare workers, and enhancing services for the people of Kano State, particularly the most vulnerable.
Among the agency’s landmark achievements is the installation of 24-hour solar power systems in public health facilities, ensuring uninterrupted electricity for quality healthcare delivery.
Beneficiary hospitals include Kiru General Hospital, Bebeji General Hospital, Wudil General Hospital, Doguwa General Hospital, Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital, Fagwalawa Cottage Hospital, Gwarzo General Hospital, Dambatta General Hospital, Kura General Hospital and Imam Wali General Hospital.
These interventions demonstrate how visionary leadership can translate public policy into practical improvements that directly benefit patients, healthcare professionals and communities.
From my perspective, Dr. Fatima’s leadership exemplifies discipline, integrity, accountability, courage, dedication and an unwavering commitment to public service.
It also reinforces my belief that effective leadership is not determined by gender but by competence, honesty, justice, vision and the ability to deliver meaningful results.
If the current momentum is sustained, I believe KHETFUND has the potential to become one of Nigeria’s leading health intervention agencies.
As Dr. Fatima marks her third anniversary in office, the occasion represents more than the passage of time.
It is a celebration of measurable achievements, institutional transformation and dedicated service to humanity.
On my own behalf, I congratulate Dr. Fatima Usman Zahraddeen, her management team and the entire staff of KHETFUND on this remarkable milestone.
I pray that Almighty Allah grants them continued wisdom, strength, good health and guidance as they continue serving humanity, especially the vulnerable and underserved populations across Kano State.
Alhamdulillah, KHETFUND has become one of the agencies making significant contributions to the healthcare agenda of the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf through visible and impactful interventions.
