The Nigerian Navy Secondary School (NNSS), Calabar, has celebrated its 20th anniversary alongside the passing-out parade and graduation ceremony of the Class of 2026, with the Commandant, Navy Captain Muhammad Nura Dalhatu, urging the graduating students to uphold discipline, integrity and patriotism as they move on to higher institutions and other endeavours.
Speaking to journalists during the ceremony in Calabar, Dalhatu described the occasion as a historic milestone that reflects two decades of the school’s commitment to academic excellence, character development and national service.
He said the impressive parade performance and academic achievements of the graduating students were the result of six years of dedication, resilience and military discipline.
“Our mission has always been to produce young men and women who are academically excellent, morally upright, physically fit and committed to national service,” he said.
According to the Commandant, the school was established to provide world-class education rooted in discipline, patriotism and excellence.
He noted that over the past 20 years, the institution has produced thousands of alumni who are making significant contributions in various professions within and outside Nigeria.
“Twenty years later, that vision has blossomed into a legacy of outstanding academic performance, exemplary character formation and remarkable achievements by our alumni,” Dalhatu said.
He paid tribute to the leadership of the Nigerian Navy, former Commandants, teachers, instructors, administrative staff and parents for their commitment and sacrifices in building the institution into what he described as a centre of excellence.
The pioneer Commandant of the school, retired Commodore Amatre Kpou, who attended the event as the Special Guest of Honour, was recognised for laying the foundation upon which the school has flourished over the past two decades.
Addressing the graduating students, Dalhatu reminded them that enduring success is built on discipline, focus and commitment to excellence.
“As you march out of these gates, remember that the values of discipline, integrity, responsibility, courage and patriotism must remain your lifelong companions. Be worthy ambassadors of this great institution wherever life takes you,” he advised.
The Commandant also expressed appreciation to the Chief of the Naval Staff, Naval Headquarters and the Eastern Naval Command for their continued support.
He equally thanked the Cross River State Government and the people of the Akpabuyo community for their hospitality and partnership over the years.
The event featured a colourful ceremonial parade, presentation of awards to outstanding cadets and activities commemorating the school’s 20 years of existence.
In what marked his final official assignment as Commandant of the Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Calabar, Navy Captain Dalhatu congratulated the graduating Class of 2026 and urged them to remain worthy ambassadors of the institution by upholding the values of honour, discipline and excellence throughout their lives.
