Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has taken a proactive step to prevent flooding and ensure a smooth rainy season by distributing essential working materials to 160 Community Development Associations (CDAs) across the state’s eight metropolitan local governments.

The distribution aims to bolster the city’s drainage systems and promote sustainable urban development.

Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Governor’s spokesperson, announced this through a press statement made available to newsmen in Kano.

Governor Yusuf emphasized the importance of effective drainage systems, noting their critical role in protecting against flooding, enhancing public health, improving environmental quality, and increasing urban livability.

The Governor highlighted the involvement of self help groups as known as Community Development Associations in this initiative, recognizing their significant role in addressing local challenges in our respective communities.

He expressed optimism that providing these materials would facilitate practical solutions and create lasting impacts. The expected outcomes of this initiative include:

1. Improved drainage infrastructure in targeted communities

2. Reduced flooding and waterlogging incidents

3. Enhanced public health safety

4. Strengthened community cohesionand increased participation in governance

Governor Yusuf urged all stakeholders to collaborate to achieve these shared goals, ensuring that the working materials are utilized effectively and that projects are implemented with transparency and accountability.

He also called on development partners and the private sector to support this initiative through financial and technical assistance, underscoring the government’s commitment to building resilient and sustainable city.

The items distributed include 600 each of wheelbarrows, shovels, rain boots, diggers, fork-shovels, rakes, pans, hand gloves, and 150 first aid boxes.

Governor further warned against indiscriminate dumping of refuse within drainages and other waterways that affect the passage of water during the rainy season.
