The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) on Tuesday confirmed that no fewer than six people lost their lives in a fatal auto crash involving an articulated vehicle along the Hassan Katsina Road in Lokoja, Kogi State.

The Kogi Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr. Samuel Oyedeji, disclosed that about 60 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in the crash, which occurred around 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

Speaking with journalists in Lokoja, Mr. Oyedeji attributed the accident to excessive speed.

“Our officers, in collaboration with the Police and NSCDC personnel, rushed the injured to the Kogi Specialist Hospital and the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, for medical attention,” he said.

According to Oyedeji, the six corpses have been deposited at the mortuary of the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lokoja.

“We learned that the truck, which was coming from Bauchi, was heading to Enugu State when the unfortunate incident occurred near the Zone 8 Roundabout in Lokoja,” Oyedeji added.

The sector commander appealed to motorists and other road users to strictly adhere to traffic regulations and guidelines to ensure the safety of lives.
