The Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, has commiserated with victims of flood in the state, and directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to provide the victims with immediate support.
In a press statement by Mamman Mohammed DG prees and Media affairs to the governor said, The Governor noted with regret the havoc caused by the floods and the consistency of floods in the recent years.
“We have in the last few years been battling with the menace of the flood in some parts of the state destroying houses and farmlands.
“The State Emergency Management Agency is hereby directed to reach out to the affected communities with immediate support to ameliorate their condition” Gov Buni said.
He also directed local government councils to liaise with SEMA to provide support to the victims.
“The realities of climate change has now become consistent on the communities and this calls for pragmatic solution, and the government is committed to finding lasting solutions.
Gov. Buni called for cooperation from the communities in finding lasting solutions to the reoccurance of floods in the affected areas.
He directed the relocation of flood prone communities to safer areas to avoid more casualties.
“The council Chairmen are also directed to liaise with the community leaders to move flood prone communities to safer areas.
“As the rainfall intensifies, people in communities in flood prone areas are kindly requested to move to safer places because we can’t tell when the floods may occur” he further adviced.
