From Sani Gazas Chinade, Damaturu

Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to fostering robust public-private partnerships aimed at unlocking the state’s economic potential and accelerating development.

The Governor made the pledge through the Commissioner for Commerce, Industry, Tourism, and Solid Minerals, Rt. Hon. Kaigama Umar, at the 4th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Yobe Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (YOCCIMA), held on May 4, 2025, at the Summit Conference Hall in Damaturu.

Buni emphasized that Yobe is richly endowed with natural and human resources that, if properly harnessed, could transform the economic landscape of the state. He called for increased private sector involvement, describing it as the engine of economic growth and development.

“Revitalizing the economy towards sustainable growth requires active private sector participation,” the Governor stated, adding that his administration is committed to creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

He highlighted the state’s alignment with the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business reforms, citing the establishment of the State Action on Business Enabling Reform (SABER) and the enactment of the Yobe Public-Private Partnership and Investment Promotion Law as key steps in this direction.

The event also featured the election of 21 new executive members to lead YOCCIMA for the next two years, with Musa Aji Suleiman emerging as President. In his acceptance speech, Suleiman pledged to lead an inclusive and transparent administration grounded in unity, fairness, and equal opportunity.

He assured members and the wider business community of YOCCIMA’s commitment to working closely with all levels of government and offering strategic input on policies that would foster economic growth.

Governor Buni commended the electoral committee for conducting a smooth and credible election process and applauded the outgoing executive members for their service and contributions to the Chamber’s development.

The AGM drew goodwill messages from prominent stakeholders including Alhaji Jinjiri Abubakar of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA), and Alhaji Ahmed Aishemi of the Coalition of Northern States Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (CONSCCIMA), who both praised YOCCIMA’s role in driving economic activities in the region.

With renewed leadership and government support, YOCCIMA is expected to intensify efforts in enhancing trade, investment, and economic partnerships across Yobe State.
