From Joseph Asegba, Yola
Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has made history by swearing in Hon. Peace Samson Audu as the first female Chairperson of Fufore Local Government Area.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Council Chamber of the Government House in Yola, where the Chief Judge of Adamawa State, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman, administered the oath of office and allegiance.
Governor Fintiri noted that Audu’s emergence aligns with his administration’s inclusive governance policy, mandating that all 21 local government areas have female vice chairpersons. He explained that her elevation followed the passing of the former Chairman, Alhaji Shuaibu Babas, two weeks ago.
Addressing attendees, Fintiri praised Audu as a loyal and competent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), emphasizing her experience as acting chairperson during the late chairman’s illness, which ensured continuity in leadership.
“Hon. Peace Samson Audu brings experience to this role, ensuring seamless governance,” the Governor said, affirming that her appointment followed all constitutional requirements and reflects his administration’s core values.
“In my government, there is no place for religious or tribal bigotry. Fairness is our guiding principle, and that’s the foundation of the peace, progress, and development in Adamawa today,” he added.
Fintiri encouraged Audu to uphold her oath, work closely with stakeholders, and lead with a focus on unity, development, and security. He urged Fufore residents to support their new chairperson, whom he described as a “mother figure” dedicated to their wellbeing.
Reflecting on his six years in office, the Governor expressed satisfaction with Adamawa’s transformation and optimism for the future, declaring his belief that his successor will continue the state’s upward trajectory. He also announced Sale Manu as the newly appointed Vice Chairman, reinforcing the council’s leadership structure.
In her acceptance speech, Hon. Peace Samson Audu honored her late predecessor, Alhaji Shuaibu Babas, as “a visionary leader whose grand plans for Fufore will not be forgotten,” expressing sorrow at the significant loss.
Describing Governor Fintiri as her “leader and mentor,” Audu voiced gratitude for the trust placed in her. “I am committed to a transparent and purposeful tenure, promising to meet the needs of Fufore’s people while embracing constructive feedback. I am here to serve you, and I invite your ideas to strengthen our governance,” she said.
Her appointment has drawn widespread support from community leaders and residents, who see it as a reflection of the Governor’s commitment to gender equity and grassroots empowerment.
As Hon. Peace Samson Audu assumes office, expectations are high for her to build on Babas’ legacy and guide Fufore toward a future of sustained growth, unity, and peace.
