…payment begins October

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State has approved N72,500 as the minimum wage for civil servants in the state.

The payment of the new minimum wage takes effect from this October.

Governor Ododo unveiled the new minimum wage, in Lokoja on Monday.

In addition, Ododo also suspended payment of tax on this newly approved new minimum wage for one year.

Speaking at the signing of the new minimum wage agreement with leaders of organised labour in the state, the governor emphasized the importance of implementing the new wage promptly to help civil servants cope with the current economic challenges facing the country.

Ododo expressed his commitment to ensuring that the new minimum wage is not only implemented promptly but also sustained in the long term.

The governor highlighted the need for continuous dialogue and collaboration between the government and labour to address any issues that may arise.

Ododo also reassured the public that the state government is dedicated to improving the welfare of its employees and creating a conducive working environment for all.

The state Head of Service, Mr Elijah Evenemi,  who is the Chairman of the Minimum Wage Committee, highlighted that the agreement on the minimum wage is a victory for the people, rather than any political party.

He expressed gratitude to the governor for giving the committee a free hand to carry out the assignment.
