Katsina State has clinched 13th position at the 3rd edition of the National Para Games recently concluded in Abuja.

The State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Engineer Yazid Abukur, disclosed this while presenting the athletes who represented the state to Governor Dikko Umar Radda at the Government House.

Abukur said the state competed in various disciplines, including para soccer, para shooting, para cycling, para athletics, and para powerlifting.

“Throughout the games, they displayed not only excellence but also exemplary conduct and represented Katsina with honour and dignity,” he said.

He added that at the end of the games, an 18-year-old para cyclist from Katsina, Hamza Abdulmumini, was invited to the national camp to represent Nigeria at the upcoming All African Games.

He further stated that five para players from the state were selected into the national para soccer team.

The commissioner attributed the state’s success at the games to the support and investment in sports by Governor Dikko Umar Radda.

He also called on the government to provide appropriate incentives as rewards for deserving athletes and their officials, and urged the recruitment of additional coaches and organizing secretaries to strengthen technical capacity.

Responding, Governor Dikko Umar Radda announced the donation of N10 million to the athletes and their officials.
