Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has received the report of the investigative committee set up to probe the role of the Commissioner for Transportation, Ibrahim Namadi Dala, in the controversial bail of a suspected drug baron, Sulaiman Aminu Danwawu.
The report, presented on Tuesday at the Government House by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, followed weeks of scrutiny involving material evidence and witness testimonies. This was disclosed in a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Governor Yusuf commended the committee for what he described as professionalism, objectivity, and a firm commitment to truth.
He assured that the recommendations would be reviewed promptly, with appropriate action taken in accordance with due process and the public interest.
According to the findings, the Commissioner voluntarily applied to stand as surety for the defendant on July 18, 2025. He also deposed to an affidavit of means, affirming his position as a serving commissioner and pledging to comply with all bail conditions until the trial concludes.
The committee noted that Dala was fully aware of the legal requirements, including the court’s specification that only a serving commissioner or member of the State Executive Council qualified to stand surety.
However, it observed that he failed to exercise sufficient caution before making the decision, especially given the gravity of the narcotics charges against the defendant.
The report further stated that the Commissioner had both constructive and actual knowledge of the drug-related nature of the charges, and was also aware of the state government’s strong stance against drug trafficking, substance abuse, and youth criminality.
Despite this, there was no evidence of any prior personal relationship between him and the defendant, nor any indication that he was financially or materially induced.
It also clarified that the Commissioner did not deposit the alleged ₦5 million for the bail; the claim originated solely from an affidavit submitted by the defendant.
Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s commitment to upholding transparency, justice, and discipline in public service.
He reaffirmed that the Kano State Government remains resolute in its fight against drug-related crimes and all forms of misconduct that threaten the wellbeing of Kano’s youth and society at large.
