The condolence visit, undertaken on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
The delegation was led by the Deputy Governor, Murtala Sule Garo, and included the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Farouk Ibrahim; the Emir of Rano, Muhammad Isa Umar; the Kano State APC Chairman, Umar Haruna Doguwa; the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Aisha Lawan Saji; and other senior government officials.
The delegation first visited the residence of the late Sardaunan Sokoto, where they conveyed Governor Yusuf’s condolences to the bereaved family.
Receiving the delegation, the deceased’s first son, Aminu Abubakar Alhaji, expressed appreciation to the Kano governor for the show of sympathy and solidarity during the family’s period of mourning.
The delegation later visited the palace of the Sultan of Sokoto, where they delivered Governor Yusuf’s condolence message to the monarch.
The Sultan thanked the governor for the gesture, describing it as a demonstration of the enduring unity and brotherhood among the people of Northern Nigeria.
“We appreciate Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for this thoughtful gesture. It reflects the unity and enduring brotherhood that bind the people of Northern Nigeria together,” the Sultan said.
The delegation also proceeded to the Sokoto State Government House, where they were received by the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State and the Secretary to the State Government.
They conveyed Governor Yusuf’s condolences to the government and people of the state over the death of the prominent traditional titleholder.
Governor Yusuf, in his condolence message, prayed for Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the late Sardaunan Sokoto and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
“We pray that Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings, grants him Aljannatul Firdaus, and gives his family, the Sultanate Council and the people of Sokoto State the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” the governor said.
The governor described the late Sardaunan Sokoto as a respected elder whose contributions to the Sultanate and Northern Nigeria would continue to be remembered.
