Kano state government has concluded an arrangement to complete the abandoned 5 5-kilometre rural road project commissioned across the 44 local government areas of the state.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf gave the assurance on Tuesday after a reconciliation meeting with contractors handling the capital projects at the government house.
The multi-million naira 5 kilometres rural urban road projects which were awarded by former Governor, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso during his administration had suffered total neglect by the immediate past administration of Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
“Ganduje’s failure to complete his predecessor’s developmental and public-oriented projects had left the direct beneficiaries in excruciating pain, having left the project in bad shape throughout eight years of his administration,” the governor lamented.
Governor Yusuf also commended the contractors for their timely response and assured his administration’s resolve to sustain Dr. Kwankwaso’s rationale behind road infrastructure.
The Triumph learned that a critical mutual agreement reached after the meeting included immediate mobilization of the handlers back to sites in the next week to complete the project.
Another resolution concluded between the two parties is the urgent directive issued to the state Ministry of Land and Physical Planning to sort out issues pending compensation problems.
“It was resolved that contractors would meet with their respective banks to access 30 per cent advance payment released to the contracts but failed to access it.”
“It was further resolved as a result of recorded escalation in the prices of construction materials, that the government has accepted to review the cost of the remaining items of works based on moderate upward reviewed rates.
“It was also agreed that the government would fashion out a planned strategic payment to contracts every month such that no payment is stagnated,” he said.
The resolution had that contractors that accepted the new offer should mobilize to their respective sites within one week otherwise forfeit the opportunity.
