In a bid to alleviate the economic difficulties faced by residents following the removal of oil subsidies, the Katsina State Government has commenced the sale of food items at affordable prices.
The initiative, which aims to provide essential food supplies at lower costs, was announced by the Special Adviser on Rural Economy, Engineer Nuhu Danja.
Speaking to the press after the State Executive Council meeting, Engineer Danja revealed that the food items would be sold at seven designated centers spread across the state.
These centers, which are strategically located in all three senatorial zones of the state, will initially operate in phases and are expected to eventually serve all 361 wards in Katsina.
“The sales of food items will commence in phases and will soon cover all the 361 wards,” Danja stated. He emphasized that the program, dubbed *Rumbin Sauki* (which means “Relief of Hardship”), is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to mitigate the impact of the subsidy removal on the state’s citizens.
Danja further assured the public that the state government has made adequate arrangements to ensure the success of the initiative. He also called on residents to cooperate with the committees overseeing the sales, urging them to follow the guidelines set for the fair distribution of the food items.
“This initiative is necessary to reduce the economic strain on our people. We urge everyone to work together to ensure its success,” Danja added.
The launch of this program is part of the government’s broader strategy to provide relief to families affected by the economic changes and to promote food security within the state.
The government has vowed to sustain the initiative, with hopes that it will provide significant relief to struggling families.
Katsina residents can now look forward to affordable food access as the program unfolds over the coming weeks.
