The Ibom Golf Course continues to attract visitors to Akwa Ibom State despite the temporary closure of the Ibom Hotel & Golf Resort for renovation, reinforcing its role in the state government’s ARISE Agenda tourism development drive.

The Ibom Golf and Country Club (IGCC) recently hosted the NAPE 2.0

Homecoming Tournament, which attracted approximately 150 golfers and industry professionals from organisations including NNPC, NLNG, Chevron and other corporate institutions.

The tournament reportedly increased patronage of hospitality businesses in Uyo, with hotels across the city fully booked. Visitors also commended the state’s cleanliness, road infrastructure and the maintenance of the golf course.

In another development, the club is scheduled to host approximately 200 members and guests of the Golf & Tour Charity Association (G&TCA) from Thursday, November 5, to Sunday, November 8, 2026.

Speaking on the club’s activities, its Captain, Isuamfon Archibong, expressed appreciation to Governor Umo Eno for his continued support in maintaining the Ibom Golf Course.

He said the governor’s support had ensured that golf tourism remained active despite the ongoing renovation of the hotel and resort.

“We are very grateful to His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, for his steady support in maintaining the Ibom Golf Course. With his backing, golf tourism has not stopped during the renovation.

“Hosting two major tournaments in one week shows the peace, security and hospitality of our great state,” Archibong said.

The club noted that golf tournaments generate economic benefits beyond sporting activities, creating business opportunities for hotels, airlines, transport operators, caterers, market traders, branding companies and caddies.

According to the club, visitors’ spending circulates across different sectors, creating a multiplier effect that supports local businesses and livelihoods.

The IGCC management disclosed that it would publish a comprehensive economic impact report following the conclusion of the G&TCA tournament.

The development further highlights Akwa Ibom State’s efforts to strengthen its tourism profile and attract visitors through sporting events and hospitality investments.
