Worried about the hardship being experienced by the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), as a result of security challenges, the Danish Refugees Council (DRC) in partnership with a Sokoto-based NGO, the Asattahir International Foundation (AIF) has distributed relief materials to over 1,600 displaced persons in the Isa Local Government Area in the State.
The materials, distributed 7,775, items that including mattresses, blankets, water containers, food utensils, plates, cups, soap, toothpaste, and clothing to the displaced Persons so to improve their well-being.
The leader of the foundation, Alhaji Sayeed Ali, said that over 1,600 people in Isa refugee camps benefited from the gesture.
He said the foundation, in partnership with the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) and funded by the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), has been providing humanitarian assistance to displaced persons in Sokoto State.
According to him, the gesture was intended to support people in the refugee camps to alleviate their suffering.
“The victims are seriously in psychological and economic trauma and hence need such gestures and other humanitarians’ assistance as beings.
“This is the second time the foundation has distributed relief materials in the state, with the first distribution taking place in Tangaza Local Government Area.”
While appealing to the general public especially well to do in society to support people in the refugee camps because according to him the victims are currently in dire need.
He said that the foundation will continue to scout for assistance to the vulnerable people especially those in the refugee camps because according to him the victims are seriously in dire need of such assistance.
