From Umar Danladi Ado, Sokoto

Shehu Abubakar Kamarawa, the Isa Local Government Chairman in Sokoto State, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security operations aimed at curbing banditry and other criminal activities.

The clarification follows claims circulating online that the Chairman failed to act on a security alert regarding suspected bandits in the area. The Council described the allegation as “false and misleading.”

According to a statement from the LGA, upon receiving the alert, local authorities promptly mobilized security guards and notified relevant security agencies. Security personnel were deployed to the reported location, but the bandits reportedly diverted through another route, leading to the unfortunate incident.

The LGA said swift corrective measures were taken, including the replacement of the commander in charge of the area to improve coordination and accountability.

Kamarawa sympathized with families and communities affected by the attack, assuring residents of the government’s dedication to restoring peace and stability.

He called on citizens to provide credible intelligence to security agencies and commended the Governor for his proactive measures against banditry.

The interventions highlighted by the Chairman include the distribution of patrol vehicles and motorcycles to security agencies, reinstatement of monthly operational allowances for personnel, and the establishment of the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps.

Plans are also underway to recruit additional personnel into the State Neighbourhood Initiative and the Sokoto Marshals.

The Council reiterated its commitment to addressing security challenges and supporting security agencies with logistics and operational materials.
