The Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has condemned the mob killing of a woman, Ummulkhair, in Mararaban Jos, Kaduna State, describing the incident as barbaric, ungodly, and a disturbing example of the growing trend of jungle justice in Nigeria.

In a statement signed by the Secretary-General of JNI, Professor Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, on behalf of the President-General of the organisation, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, the group expressed deep shock over the incident. It stressed that Islam upholds the sanctity of human life and strictly forbids the unlawful killing of any innocent person.

JNI called on security agencies to conduct a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation to ensure that all those responsible for the killing are identified, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The organisation also urged authorities to investigate allegations of negligence against the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the Mararaban Jos Police Division, insisting that any officer found culpable should face appropriate disciplinary action.

In addition, JNI appealed to the Kaduna State Government to provide support for the deceased’s family, including educational assistance for her children, humanitarian intervention, and other welfare measures to help ease the impact of the tragedy.

The Islamic body further called on religious leaders, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders to intensify public awareness campaigns against mob justice, urging Nigerians to report suspected criminal activities to law enforcement agencies instead of taking the law into their own hands.

JNI extended its condolences to the family of the deceased, the Kaduna State Government, and the Muslim Ummah, praying for the repose of Ummulkhair’s soul while urging citizens to uphold justice, peace, and the rule of law at all times.
