From Mustapha Saye, Kaduna

Senatorial aspirants from Kaduna State’s three senatorial zones on Saturday signed a peace accord aimed at ensuring peaceful, transparent, and credible All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The peace pact was signed during a meeting held at the Kaduna State Police Headquarters, bringing together political stakeholders and aspirants from across the state.

Among those present at the meeting were former Kaduna State Governor, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero; Senator Ibrahim Khalid Mustapha representing Kaduna North; former Kaduna South Senator, Danjuma Tella La’ah; former Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Yusuf Ibrahim Zailani; Engr. Michael Ayuba Auta, the Labour Party’s 2023 senatorial candidate for Kaduna South; and Ambassador Yerima Usman Shettima.

Speaking shortly after the signing of the accord, Engr. Michael Ayuba Auta said the agreement demonstrated the collective resolve of the aspirants to promote issue-based campaigns, mutual respect, and strict adherence to democratic principles and party guidelines.

According to him, all the aspirants pledged to maintain political maturity and due process before, during, and after the party primaries.

The aspirants also rejected violence, intimidation, hate speech, and other actions capable of undermining party unity and democratic stability in Kaduna State.

Auta commended the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for their proactive measures toward maintaining peace and security across the state.

He described the peace accord as an important step toward strengthening internal democracy, fostering unity among party members, and ensuring credible leadership selection ahead of the 2027 general elections.
