The Kano State Government has commenced a three-day induction workshop for 19 newly appointed Permanent Secretaries as part of efforts to strengthen the state civil service through continuous capacity building and leadership development.

The workshop, organised by the Office of the Head of Service, is themed “Accountable Leadership, Policy Execution and Institutional Transformation.”

It is aimed at equipping the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries with the knowledge, leadership skills and administrative competencies required to effectively implement government policies and drive institutional excellence across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

This was contained in a statement issued by the Director of Public Enlightenment, Rabiya Uba Suleiman, and made available to journalists in Kano.

Declaring the workshop open on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Umar Faruq Ibrahim, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to building a competent, accountable and results-driven public service.

He noted that Permanent Secretaries occupy strategic positions in government and are expected to provide effective leadership, ensure efficient implementation of policies and uphold the principles of transparency, integrity and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

In her welcome address, the Head of Service, Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, described the induction programme as a key component of the state’s ongoing civil service reform agenda.

She explained that the workshop would expose participants to contemporary leadership practices, public sector management strategies and the ethical standards expected of senior public servants.

The Head of Service urged the participants to actively engage in all sessions and apply the knowledge gained to improve service delivery, strengthen institutional performance and support the effective implementation of government policies.

The event was attended by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. Sani Sulaiman Wali, alongside top government officials, Permanent Secretaries and other senior civil servants.

Delivering the vote of thanks, the Permanent Secretary, Human Resource, Alhaji Sabiu Shuaibu Muhammad, expressed appreciation to the Kano State Government for its sustained investment in training and retraining programmes aimed at enhancing capacity development and accelerating civil service reforms.

He congratulated the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them through dedication, accountability and exemplary leadership.

He also commended the Secretary to the State Government and the Head of Service for their visionary leadership and commitment to building a more efficient, responsive and service-oriented civil service.

The three-day workshop is expected to strengthen the leadership capacity of the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries and enhance effective policy execution in line with the development agenda of the Kano State Government.
